Cofounder

Domains

Buy a domain or bring your own, point it at your app, manage its DNS, and send email from it.

Your company gets a domain for its app and its email. Your agent can buy one or use one you already own, then connect it to your app and your inbox.

Any company member can search names and check a domain's status. Buying, renewing, importing, connecting, and every DNS read or change need an admin.

Find and Buy One

Your agent suggests names from your company name or a keyword, or checks exact names you give it (up to 20 at once), and shows each name's availability and price. On MCP, it can show you the checked names to pick from.

Buying a domain charges the company balance, and so does renewing one. Your agent quotes the price first and buys at that price. Companies on prepaid credits need an active $40/month company credit subscription to buy a domain. Without one, your agent starts the subscription, you pay, and it tries again. Searching and managing domains you already have work without it.

The registration needs registrant contact details. Any field your agent leaves out comes from your saved details (see Save Your Details and Business). If a purchase is still pending, your agent checks on it instead of buying again.

Once the purchase finishes, your agent can set up an inbox on the new domain. You choose the mailbox name, like hello for hello@acme.com. See Email for inboxes and their billing.

Bring Your Own

A domain registered elsewhere can be added without transferring it or changing its DNS or nameservers.

  1. Your agent imports the domain and points it at your app.
  2. You add the DNS records it gives you at your DNS provider.
  3. Your agent confirms the records are live, which proves you own the domain, then connects it to your app and waits for DNS and hosting checks.
cofounder domains import acme.com --project <hosting-resource> --wait

Point It at Your App

Your agent connects hostnames on the domain, like acme.com or app.acme.com, to your app. Ownership must be proven first. If your DNS is elsewhere, you add the records it gives you there. DNS and hosting are checked separately, so you can see which one is still waiting.

A hostname already connected elsewhere moves only if this domain's ownership proof is stronger than the current holder's.

Edit DNS

On domains Cofounder manages, your agent adds, changes, and removes DNS records for you. It works on the company's default domain unless you name another. It supports A, AAAA, ALIAS, CAA, CNAME, HTTPS, MX, NS, SRV, and TXT records.

Your agent can apply a whole set of records at once, preview the change first, and repeat it safely. Adding a single record isn't safe to repeat, so after an unclear result your agent lists the records before trying again.

Check and Move DNS

Your agent can list the records your app, staging, and marketing sites need. For a domain you brought, you add them at your DNS host. It can also check live DNS against that list and mark each record present, mismatched, or missing.

To move a domain's DNS onto Cofounder, your agent saves the current records, previews and applies them, checks them, then points the registrar at the new nameservers and watches verification. Changing nameservers replaces the domain's whole nameserver list, which changes where all its DNS is served. Your agent can also switch back to the registrar's own nameservers.

Send Email From Your Domain

Your agent prepares send.<domain> for sending company email. Supply sender_subdomain to domains_sending_domain_ensure to choose another label, such as mail. Omitting it keeps the existing sender.

  • If Cofounder serves the domain's DNS, the records are added for you without replacing existing ones. Otherwise, you add the records it gives you at your DNS provider. If that's blocked, your agent tells you what to do.
  • Readiness and delivery feedback are checked afterwards. If feedback is off or incomplete, your agent follows the returned notice so Cofounder can restore it before sending is turned on. Running setup again restores the managed feedback registration and required subscriptions. Company sending restrictions stay in force.
  • Preparing the domain doesn't turn on app or campaign sending. Valid DNS doesn't mean the sender is ready for customer email.

For app email, your agent can instead set up a sender under cofounder.company, after checking Cofounder controls that zone. The app uses it only once it reports ready. Both setups are safe to run again.

Status, Contacts, and Renewals

Your agent can show you a domain's ownership, connection state, readiness, and any action it needs, and compare what Cofounder saved with what the registrar and DNS report now.

Registrant contact details are never shown back, even when your agent reads the registrant. Updating them changes only the fields your agent sends.

Renewing charges the quoted price and fails if the price changed, so you're never charged a different amount. Retrying a renewal won't charge you twice. Automatic renewal can be turned on or off.

Commands

MCPCLIAPI

Your agent also uses these to check exact names, check a pending purchase, start the credit subscription, prove ownership, connect hostnames to hosting resources, and find hosting resource ids:

cofounder domains discover --name acme.com --name acme.io
cofounder domains list
cofounder company billing subscribe
cofounder domains ownership prove --hostname <hostname> --project-resource-id <id>
cofounder domains attach --targets <json>
cofounder resources list

Prices are in USD cents. DNS commands take --resource <domain> for a domain other than the default. On MCP, company_app_open with view=domains and names shows checked names to pick from.

cofounder domains search --domain-name <domain> is an older way to check several exact names. Use check or discover instead.
