Create a Company

Create a company, invite the people who share it, and save the settings and business details your agent uses everywhere.

A company holds everything your agent works with: knowledge, connections, resources, roadmap, and billing. One account can run several companies, each with its own context.

Create One

Tell your agent the company's name and it creates the company. The new company becomes your active company, so your agent's later work targets it. To switch, or to aim one request at another company, see Multiple Companies.

cofounder company create "Acme Analytics"

Your first company includes $5 of starter credit. Each additional company costs $5, credited to its starting balance. Your agent gives you a checkout page or payment link. After you pay, it retries the same request.

Creating a company from the CLI or API also returns a company API key, which your agent can use instead of signing in. The MCP doesn't return one.

Company creation can include optional business_facts with offer and intended_use. The CLI accepts them as JSON:

cofounder company create "Acme Salon Booking" --business-facts '{"offer":"Appointment booking software for independent salons","intended_use":"Use Cofounder to manage marketing and customer support for our own product."}'

MCP and API callers pass the same object as business_facts. You can also add or change these facts later in company settings.

Invite Members

Each person you invite gets their own Cofounder login, and their agents work on the same company. You choose each person's role, and you can change it or remove them later. Inviting needs an admin and is turned on per company; if it isn't on for yours, the invite is refused.

Hand the Company to a Person

If an agent created the company on its own, it can give the company to a person by sending them a claim link.

  • The link goes by email to the owner email saved when the agent signed up. If none was saved, your agent needs an owner email to send it to.
  • The link works once. Your agent never sees it. It only learns whether the email went out and when the link expires. Sent doesn't mean claimed: the person still has to open it.
  • Sending a new link makes the previous one stop working.
  • Only companies created by agent signup can be claimed. For any other company, invite the person as a member.

The agent starts as an admin. Claiming adds the person as another admin and keeps the agent's role. The person can then demote or remove the agent and revoke its API key.

Change Settings

Settings hold the company name, default timezone, postal address for customer email, and whether a staging deploy needs approval before going live. Only a company admin can change them. Business facts describe the offer and intended use for ad checks.

cofounder company settings update --timezone America/Chicago
cofounder company settings update --business-facts '{"offer":"Appointment booking software for independent salons","intended_use":"Use Cofounder to manage marketing and customer support for our own product."}'

An update changes only what you name. A full replace leaves name, pinned_apps, and business_facts unchanged when omitted. Other omitted settings are cleared or reset, including timezone, address, and live-deploy approval. Naming a company that still has a placeholder name confirms its name and sets its slug; after that, renaming keeps the company's slug, URLs, and id. Company email needs a confirmed name. Turning live-deploy approval on or off needs a signed-in admin, not an API key.

business_facts accepts offer and intended_use, each up to 2,000 characters. Ad creation needs both. They are descriptions supplied by the caller, not verified records or permission to advertise. settings get returns the saved facts. Each covered ad is checked separately using its copy and audience; a blocked operation explains what needs correcting or review. If classification is unavailable, submit the facts again with settings update to retry. Set --business-facts-null to clear both facts. An existing prohibited-business or unsupported-use decision cannot be cleared by removing the description or by an incomplete classification. Provide complete, corrected information to reassess it, or contact Support.

Save Your Details and Business

Your details (legal name, contact email, mobile phone, home address) live on your account and apply to every company you run. A company is your sole proprietorship until you record a formed LLC or corporation as its business.

The business record holds the legal name, entity type, and address. Cofounder uses it to register domains, set up texting, and fill email footers, so you enter it once. The legal name is the company name, so rename the company to change it. When your agent buys a domain, any registrant field it leaves out comes from your details. Tax ID numbers, SSNs, and dates of birth are never stored. Only a company admin can change the business.

cofounder user details replace --first-name Ada --last-name Lovelace --phone +14155550123
cofounder company business replace --entity-type llc --formation-state DE

Saving either record rewrites the whole record. Deleting the business makes the company a sole proprietorship again.

Check the Brand Kit

Your agent can tell you whether the company has a brand kit, whether it's waiting for your review or locked, and which brand files it holds. See Check Your Brand and Design for the rest of the brand work.

Commands

MCPCLIAPI

Every claim command except claim-status get emails a new link. If the company has no saved owner email, creating a link returns owner_email_required. Send it with company claim --owner-email <email>.
