Connect an Agent
Add CofounderOS to Claude, Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT, Cursor, or any coding agent through MCP or the cofounder CLI, then sign in.
Connect through MCP if your agent runs in Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, or VS Code. Connect through the CLI if your agent runs commands in a terminal, or for scripts and CI. Both give your agent the same tools, and you can use both.
The options below go from least to most work. Use the first one your agent supports.
Install With Your Agent
Paste one of these prompts into your agent's chat. Your agent sets up the connection, starts sign-in, and follows the onboarding guide. Confirm each install, sign-in, or consent step it asks about; the prompt alone doesn't install anything or sign you in.
For an agent in Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, or another MCP host:
Please install the Cofounder MCP:
https://api.cofounder.co/mcp
then please trigger oauth signin and follow
https://app.cofounder.co/mcp-onboarding/skill.md
to onboard me onto Cofounder.
Before company setup, ask whether I want to use an existing GitHub
repository, upload a local folder, or start with a new repository. For an agent that runs commands in a terminal, like Claude Code or Codex:
Read and follow https://app.cofounder.co/cli-onboarding/skill.md
to help me set up my company on Cofounder and get my first task started.
Before company setup, ask whether I want to use an existing GitHub
repository, upload a local folder, or start with a new repository.
If I'm on Windows, follow
https://app.cofounder.co/mcp-onboarding/skill.md instead (the CLI needs WSL).Both prompts connect to production Cofounder. They're chat text, not shell commands or config files. If your agent can't set up the connection from chat, use one of the options below.
Connect Through MCP
Every host connects to the same hosted endpoint:
https://api.cofounder.co/mcpOne-Click Install
- Cursor: Add Cofounder to Cursor
- VS Code: Add Cofounder to VS Code
- Claude (claude.ai, Claude Desktop chat, mobile): Add Cofounder as a custom connector
The Cursor and VS Code links work only if the app is installed on the same machine, and your browser asks before opening them.
One Command Per Host
-
Claude Code: add the server for all your projects, then sign in with
/mcp.claude mcp add --transport http cofounder https://api.cofounder.co/mcp --scope user -
Codex: add the server to
~/.codex/config.toml, then runcodex mcp login cofounder.[mcp_servers.cofounder] url = "https://api.cofounder.co/mcp" -
ChatGPT: on chatgpt.com, add a custom MCP server with
https://api.cofounder.co/mcp, keep Authentication on OAuth, and sign in. The step-by-step guide shows each screen.
Other hosts and newer install steps are listed at app.cofounder.co/install.md.
Signing In
Run codex mcp login cofounder, authenticate through Claude Code's /mcp,
or connect through Cursor's MCP settings. In the Claude app, choose
Connect on the Cofounder connector (in Customize → Connectors), then
enable it in a chat from + → Connectors. The app opens browser sign-in
for you, with no terminal needed.
Hosts may first show a Cofounder consent screen that names the app and where it will return you. Approve it only for a connection you started. When the hosted server starts using this screen, each host asks you to reconnect once; sign in again from the host and nothing else changes.
Each host stores its own OAuth credential, so signing in to the CLI doesn't sign in an MCP host. Don't export a CLI token into the host's MCP configuration.
Connect Through the CLI
Install the CLI and sign in:
npm install --global @generalintelligence/cofounder@latest vercel@59.19.0
cofounder version
cofounder auth loginThe CLI needs Node.js 22 or 24 on macOS (Apple Silicon) or Linux (x64 or
arm64). It doesn't run natively on Windows. There, install it inside WSL 2,
or connect through MCP, which needs no CLI. The
deploy commands are tested against the pinned vercel version. Leave it off
to keep a compatible global install you already have; a project-local
install (npm install @generalintelligence/cofounder) includes it.
Then install the company-work guide for your terminal agent:
# Claude Code
cofounder instructions install-skill --client claude
# Codex
cofounder instructions install-skill --client codexCLI Basics covers signing up, account settings, finding commands and docs, and updating. For an unattended agent, use a company API key from API Keys and Scripting.
Set It Up by Hand
Any client that supports streamable HTTP and MCP OAuth can connect to the URL above. MCP Configuration covers writing the config by hand, company API keys for agents that can't open a browser, switching accounts, and revoking a connection.
Check It Works
Ask your agent:
Get started with Cofounder. It reads the onboarding guide (onboarding_get on MCP, cofounder onboarding
on the CLI), signs you in if needed, and finds your company or helps you
create one. How Your Agent Works
explains what it does from there.
